Rachel Yvonne Loveday Cordell departed this life to join our Heavenly Father on July 20, 2011. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 3, 1940 to Troy and Ruby Loveday, who preceded her in death along with her husband, Cecil Jeff Cordell, two brothers Harold and Darrell Loveday and granddaughter Jessica Amy Cordell. Along with countless quilts for family and friends, she leaves behind sons, Tim, Todd (Stacey), Kelly, Scott and Brandon (Arlene) Cordell; step children, Richard Cordell and Debbie Jacobi; brothers, Charles, Ira, Troy, Farrell, Gary, Grady, Rick, Mike; sisters, Gerry Schroeder, Frances Dangler, Deborah Summers; 8 grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life; several step grandchildren and step-great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her friends and family referred to her as Yvonne, but she was also known to many as Aunt Don or just “mom” by many kids, young and old, that she fed, clothed, bathed, kissed, hugged and even “whooped some *** ”. She attended Sundean H.S. and graduated from Mary Carroll H.S. Her hands were her tools, used to create many ceramic treasures. She was a member of the Quilting Guild, and donated hundreds of quilts and other baby items to N.I.C.U. at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. She enjoyed taking long walks on the beach and collecting shells. She was proud to be a part of the Flour Bluff community and worked several years for FBISD. For over 15 years, she worked at Cage-Mills Funeral Home helping to comfort other families with the loss of their loved ones. Although she is no longer here to comfort us, during this difficult time, we know she has finally reunited with her true love and family members, in heaven.
The family will be receiving friends at Cage-Mills Funeral Home at 4901 Everhart on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Cage-Mills Funeral Home on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
