She was born on August 27, 1938, in Refugio, Texas, to Pedro and Cleotilde Villarreal. Upon graduation from Refugio High School in 1956, Petra embarked on a dedicated career working for John Houston Engineering for 22 years before contributing over 25 years of service to Stewart Title Company.
She and her husband moved to Austin, Texas, in 2005 to be close to their children and help raise their grandchildren. She was very active in their lives. She was also an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where she cherished the many friends she made among parishioners.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Gilbert Rivera, Sr, her parents, Pedro and Cleotilde Villarreal, and her brother, Max Villarreal.
She leaves behind her children, Gilbert Rivera Jr. and Jacqueline (Paul) Fushille, and grandchildren, Eowyn and Griffin Fushille, whom she adored. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosie (Godfrey) Vela and Severita Rodriguez, and her brothers, Alfonso Villarreal, Antonio (Julia) Villarreal, and Gilbert Villarreal. Petra held a special place in her heart for numerous nieces and nephews, loving each one dearly.
Services will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, beginning with the viewing at 8:30 AM, then the Holy Rosary at 9:30 AM, and the Vigil at 10:30 AM. The interment will take place at Rosehill Cemetery at 11:30 AM, where Petra will be laid to rest next to her husband. May Petra Villarreal Rivera rest in eternal peace, reunited with her husband and those who have gone before her, and may her family find comfort in the enduring memories of a life well-lived.
