She went to W.B. Ray High School, graduating in 1955 and later attending Texas A&I University. She met her future husband, W. Clayton Morgan, in Corpus Christi’s First United Methodist Church (FUMC), marrying him on October 5, 1961.
With Clayton, Patty traveled to different places, living alternately in White Sands, New Mexico; Houston; and the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri. Eventually, she and Clayton returned to Corpus Christi, reconnecting with her surviving family and numerous friends.
Patty loved music of all sorts and was a skilled piano player. She filled her home and her family’s hearts with the sounds of her piano playing, often the lively rhythm and notes of her boogie woogie.
But she shared her musical gifts with more than her family. Always strong in her faith, Patty acted as a Sunday School teacher at New Hope United Methodist Church in Arnold, Missouri, and at FUMC. Many children have grown up singing along while Patty played “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy,” in Sunday School. When Patty would look over her shoulder at the smiling faces and say, “Where?” the children would all happily respond “Down in my heart!”
Indeed, this song is the perfect song for Patty, as she truly had the joy in her heart each and every day. Her warmth and love towards everyone she encountered made their days brighter. She showed genuine care and compassion, and, being in Patty’s presence, you knew you were loved. Her positivity and compassion brought light and warmth to the cloudiest of days.
Patty also had a great sense of humor. She was not afraid to be silly, and would dance, don wigs, and dress as a clown in order to make people smile. Patty’s sense of humor was spontaneous, and when the mood inspired her, she would phone her sons and grandsons with jokes and puns that she made up herself. You knew there was going to be laughter when Patty was around.
Patty is survived by her husband Walter Clayton Morgan; her son, Walter Morgan; her youngest son, Patrick Morgan, and his wife, Christine; and her grandchildren, Clayton and Andrew Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents and her oldest son, William Clayton Morgan.
Patty’s wonderful spirit, joy, and life will be celebrated at FUMC at 900 S. Shoreline Boulevard in Corpus Christi, Texas, on December 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church.
