He attended Fremont High School, where he learned to play trumpet and was a member of the marching band. It was during this time that the seed for his lifelong love for music was planted.
In November of 1965 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Otis was honorably discharged in November of 1969.
Once home, he reunited with and eventually married his high school friend, Carole Walder on October 3, 1970. In 1972 they welcomed one daughter, Robyn Alexander. Otis was a man that wore many hats, working in a warehouse, driving a truck, and working at a photography shop. Later in life he would take the skills learned there to pursue his passion for photography.
In 1990, Otis became a widower when Carole, his wife of 19 years, passed away. In 1996 he married Pamela Blache and gained a stepson Damian. They relocated to Riverside, California, where he worked as a plumber for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
In 2003 Pam lost her battle with cancer and Otis became a widower for the second time. Otis never remarried. Instead, he began to indulge in his hobbies of photography and zydeco dancing.
In 2012 Otis was diagnosed with dementia and retired from LAUSD. He then relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas under the care of his sister. It was there he enjoyed fishing and trail rides with his brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
On March 7, 2020 Otis passed away. Preceding him in death was his mother Gwendolyn Duhart, father Otis Alexander Sr., brother Damon Alexander, nephew Damon Alexander Jr., stepfather Henry Duhart, stepbrother Larry Duhart, stepsister Barbara Morgan, first wife Carole Alexander and second wife Pamela Blache-Alexander.
