Ofelia Vela

Ofelia was a single mom who took pride in her family. She worked for the Corpus Christi Caller Times Retail Advertising Department and went on to retire from there. She then went on to work for Julian Gold at a talented seamstress.

Ofelia has a passion for gardening and could often be found spending time in her beautiful garden. When she wasn’t gardening, you could find her enjoying her other hobby, sewing, which she turned into a career. She was a talented seamstress and made many beautiful garments for Julian Gold, a prominent fashion boutique in Corpus Christi where she worked.

Ofelia leaves her loving memories to her beloved cat, Bonita; her son, Charles Bazzell and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Bazzell; grandchildren, Nicholas Cyrus, Angela Cyrus, Amy Koenig, and Amanda Cyrus; siblings, Mary Pensyl, Eliza Vela, and Marty Vela; her nieces and nephews, Gracy R. Balboa, Cynthia R. Gutierrez, Sammy Rodriguez, Michael Rodriguez, Angela Taylor, Christina Martinez, and Rita Vela.

Ofelia is reunited with her mother, Eliza Alvarez Vela; father, Rafael C. Vela; brother, Rafael Vela Jr.; and her loving companion, Raul Alaniz.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 9 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary to be recited that same night at 7 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
