It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother; our “Aunt Mary”, “Tia”, “Grandma” or “Grammy”. Mary D. Adame, 96, of Corpus Christi, was born on June 17, 1925 and died on January 23, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was a devoted Catholic. She loved Holy Family Catholic Church.
At 34, she was left to be a single parent and despite her hardships she maintained a deep love for her children and those around her. As an independent woman, she was able to buy her own home, and taught herself to drive. She was an excellent cook and always loved her house to be filled with her family. She worked in the school lunch line, where the managers were so impressed with her work ethic, and soon made her supervisor. She cleaned houses, picked cotton, and sold tacos to earn extra money. All this she always said, “for my children”. She worked for many years taking care of children. Her hobby with her “kids” was to color eggshells at Easter to keep them entertained.
She had a green thumb and took pride in her beautiful garden filled with rose bushes and plants. Pink roses were her favorites flowers. She loved the bingo and traveling on the bus with friends to Louisiana. She was loved by her friends, young and old. She always enjoyed her daily phone calls with friends.
Her number one joys were her 7 children: Juan J “Johnny”, Elias (Maida), Tricia (Kirk), Nick (Sylvia), Frances Young (Carl), Theresa “Teri” (Neil Brooks), Eddie (Melissa). Mom was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Nathan her grandson, she was a lifelong companion.
She has reunited with her mother Dionicia, her father, Pedro, her sisters Concepcion, Mae, and her brothers Peter, John, Jesse.
A special thank you to Virginia Ruiz who was her kind and compassionate caregiver. And to the staff at Aadi Hospice who guided us through her journey home.
Dearest Mom, oh how you will be missed. You will forever be one of the guiding lights in our lives as we remember you through the memories of your favorite song, the rose flowers blooming in your garden, or your maryisms like the funny story of the “chancla”.
