November 13, 1943 – December 7, 2021 (78)
Maria De La Luz was her given name by her parents Reyes and Abigail Hernandez. She was born in Nueva Italia, Michoacan, Mexico on November 13, 1943. She married the love of her life Jose Angel Molina on 1962. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1966 with their children. On May 3, 1970, Maria suffered the loss of her husband from an auto accident. Maria had to make the difficult decision of return to Mexico with her children or stay in Texas to raise her children. She put her trust in the Lord and asked for strength and help. She was determined to do the best for her children and decided to stay in Corpus Christi. She purchased a house on Green Grove Drive and made a home for her children. She worked unselfishly to be Mother and Father to her children. As a widow and a single mother she worked tirelessly to make sure her children had all that they needed as well as taking them to work, school, and other activities. She stressed the value of a strong work ethic and the importance of an education. Maria was a loving and devoted mother and she took pride in the fact that her children grew up to be hard working individuals and assets to the community. Later, when grandchildren came into her life she also made it a point to instill in them the value of faith, family, hard work and education. She was so proud that she got to see all three grandchildren graduate from college and be employed in their profession.
Maria loved gardening. She had a green thumb and was able to cultivate plants from snippets. Her garden was filled with a variety of flowering plants and fruit trees. She would spend hours with her “matitas.” Although her parents and siblings lived far away in Mexico and California, she made it a point to keep in contact and updated on all the latest news of her nieces and nephews. Maria had a deep faith in “Diosito” and the Virgin de Guadalupe. She was a prayer warrior and often had candles lit for her family and friends in need. Until her last moments on this earth she was praising God for all He had done for her.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband; Jose Angel Molina, son Sergio Gerardo Molina, parents Reyes and Abigail Hernandez, and brother Luis Hernandez.
She is survived by her children; Angela Molina, Juan Manuel Molina(Perla), Rafael Molina (Veronica)and her grandchildren Jessica, Emilio and Gabriella, her siblings Alicia Herrera Armas, Hector Cortez, Guadalupe Hernandez, Nolberto Hernandez as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
