Ernie was born on June 8, 1984. From day one, he was a gentle soul and blessing to everyone with whom he came in contact. The youngest of the siblings in his family, Ernie’s presence was larger than life. His never-ending love for his family and gracious nature was evident to all around him. Because of his disability, he was unable to do many physical activities. However, he never let his physical ailments stop him from enjoying life. Ernie loved playing video games and watching movies with his family. And if you needed anything, he would be the first to help in any way he could… even if all he could do was provide a word of encouragement. Towards the end of his life, Ernie’s perseverance was even more evident. In some of his last words, he talked about wanting to get better and go to rehab to strengthen his legs. His constant fight to live life to the fullest was his life’s pursuit.
He is reunited with his paternal grandparents, Hernan and Yolanda Garcia; maternal grandfather, Tom Salazar; paternal uncle, Mario Garcia; maternal uncles, Ollie Salazar and Sam Salazar.
Ernie leaves to cherish his loving memories to his mother, Rose Marie Bruce; siblings, Roxanne Bruce-Beltran (James), Richard Bruce (Melissa); maternal grandmother Ofelia Salazar; nieces, Kristian Ramos (Rene), Allison Beltran, Avery Bruce; nephew, Aidan Bruce; great niece, Abigail Ramos; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.
His mother and family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors at Spohn Shoreline Hospital for providing such loving care and compassion during his numerous stays. Darrel, Yvette, Belinda, Kalani, Eric and Albert (his nurses) were a special God send because of their patience, decency, and consideration in caring for Ernie. His mom would also like to recognize Chaplin Lynn Blackler for her spiritual guidance and grace. The Spohn Hospice nurses, Evelyn and Bill, were with Ernie and family at the end of his life. Their care, empathy, and support were an immeasurable comfort to his mom and went far beyond just doing their job. Lastly, his immediate family would like to thank his Aunt Lilly for being a second mom to him. When his mother could not be there for him because she had to work (as most single moms do), Lilly would step in and do what whatever was needed. There are no words strong enough to say how much we appreciate her love and respect for Ernie.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
