He was born August 18, 1942 in Gilbert, Arkansas. He moved to Oklahoma at a young age.
Lewis worked in the oil fields in and around Osage County, Oklahoma until 1967. He moved to South Texas with his family and started his career with Arco Oil and Gas until his retirement in 1986. He started running a pumper boat in the Corpus Christi Bay before moving to the onshore division as an operator at Taft gas plant. While there he went on loan to the International division training Indonesian nationals to operate the world's first offshore gas plant. After he returned to the states he moved to the offshore division training operators for the Gulf of Mexico until he retired.
Lewis was a member of First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, TX. He became a Christian at the age of 24 and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Barnsdall, Okla.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Selma Atwell of Cleveland, Okla.; Father, Prender Jackson of Arkansas and Brother and Sister in law, James and Lavada Smith of Barnsdall, Okla.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cynthia Forrest Smith of Corpus Christi; their daughter, Delores (Charles) Hill of Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and their grandson, Fletcher Douglas Whiteley of Richardson, Tx.
He is also survived by their ex son-in-law Bill (Lori) Whiteley of Bowie, Tx.; special friends and travel companions Loyd and Hyla Lott of Corpus Christi and many other special friends and family.
As per Lewis' request, there will be no services held.
Cremation is entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel Everhart, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78411.
