Juan Manuel Ortiz, age 72 of Corpus Christi, passed away peacefully on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 2, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Alfredo and Maria Ortiz. Juan attended West Oso High School in 1967 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1970. He was stationed in Germany from 1971 to 1972.
Returning to Corpus Christi, Texas, Juan attended Del Mar Community College and pursued a certificate in Architectural Drafting. Continuing his service to our country, Juan served in the Texas Army National Guard until 1977 and worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot aboard NAS, Corpus Christi, Tx from 1975 to 2000 as a technical painting specialist, painting helicopter aircraft to include aviation engines, parts, and accessories.
He was a faithful member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, and a founding member of the Corpus Christi Veterans Band and Color Guard volunteering in several ceremonies and events throughout the South Texas area. Juan had a passion for history, John Grisham books, novels, War and Western Movies.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents Maria and Alfredo Ortiz; sisters: Teresa Marinez, Adelaida Garcia, Senaida Sanchez, Hilda Ortiz, and brothers; Rosalio De Jesus Ortiz and Jose Angel Ortiz.
Juan is survived by three sisters: Socorro Loera, San Juanita Benavides, and Guadalupe Urtado (Luis); Five children: Juan M. Ortiz, Jr (Christine), Jose A. Ortiz, Marco A. Ortiz (Gloria), Andrea Ortiz and Richard R. Ortiz (Evonne); seventeen (17) Grand Children and six (6) Great Grand Children.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 starting at 8:30 am at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a Rosary at 10:00 am the same morning. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated the same day, May 2nd at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church. Interment to follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
