On June 27th, 2024 Josephine “Josie” Martinez was carried gently in to arms of Jesus, her last heavenly home. Josie has reunited with our Loving Father God Almighty and her recently deceased daughter Rebecca Ramirez as well as numerous family and friends.
Josie began her years on October 19th, 1932 in North Texas. She was one of 9 children of Marcelino Martinez and Carmen Ramirez. Josie was born in Belton, Texas where she eventually met her future husband Ruben C. Martinez. They recently celebrated 73 years of marriage in March of this year.
Soon after marriage they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where they raised their six children, Rosalinda “Nina” Maza, Rachel Martinez, Rita Ramirez, Roberta “Birdie” Cruz, and Ruben C. Martinez Jr. and then adopted two of their grandchildren in their later years, Veronica Tori Gonzales and Venessa Tara Martinez.
Josie was a dedicated member of St. Theresa Catholic Church for over fifty years. The Catholic faith was a pillar of Josie’s life. Josie joined multiple organizations throughout the church such as the Guadalupanas and the Diocese of Corpus Christi. Josie volunteered thousands of hours in hundreds of church events including one of her favorites, the church’s annual Spookfest.
As CCD coordinator of St. Theresa over a span of four decades, Josie made numerous relationships with countless families. Josie collaborated with various Priests, Deacons, and Sisters to share her faith and educate children in the Catholic faith to many generations through the years of her service.
Josie was a beautiful soul who volunteered in various capacities in her community. As a school volunteer she held various positions on the PTA boards for Driscoll Middle School and Roy Miller High School. Josie was involved in booster clubs, CCC PTA’s, and working with local voting stations. Josie was a lifelong supporter of the Miller Bucs. Purple and Gold were her favorite team’s colors and she wore them proudly, even when they were losing. She always asked “How the Bucs doing?”. She was the loudest in the crowd, always yelling “Go! Bucs! Go!”
Her hobbies included bowling, cooking, sewing, dancing, and completing crosswords in her favorite recliner. Her home of over 45 years was the family gathering place for many holidays, birthdays, and family celebrations. She spent weeks decorating her home before Christmas so all of her grandchildren and the neighborhood could enjoy. Her handmade stockings were always ready and filled with candy, a rosary and if you’re lucky a lotto ticket. She made all the holidays special with her love and dedication.
Josie Martinez is survived by her loving husband, Ruben C. Martinez as well as her children, Rosalinda, Rachel, Rita, Roberta, Ruben Jr., Veronica, and Venessa.
Josie’s legacy will live on in her 15 grandchildren Monica, Michael, Moses, Benjamin, Abraham, Robert, Nicholas, Leah, Vivian, Robin, Rhianna, Valyssa, Rebecca, Ruben Jr, Renee, and Anthony. Her 25 great-grandchildren Azaline, Michael, Aerial, Alexis, Regan, Jesse, Jordan, Nevaeh, Rebecca, Alina, Malachi, Abriella, Rodney, Rodrick, Alessandra, Angel, Mateo, Israel, Azreyah, Richard, Robert, Simon, Maximus, Saint, Logan, David, and Silas and her great-great grandchildren John Gabriel, Adeline, Zachariah, and Averie.
Josie’s generous spirit, selflessness, kindness, warm smile, and love for her family and her will forever hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Josephine Martinez will be deeply missed but her legacy of love, compassion, and family will always be remembered and cherished.
