Jose graduated from West Oso High School in 1969. He served in the Marines for 1 year and served in the Army for 3 years in Germany, where he earned his degree in accounting. Upon returning from the Army he became a fire fighter. He worked in Civil Service for 25 years as an accountant.
Jose loved to make people laugh, joke and he was full of humor. He was devoted to his family 100%. He also loved cooking bar-b-que, music, especially Oldies, fishing, partying and being the clown. Without him, a party was not a party. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and boxing. He was energetic, hyper and his will power to keep on everyday up to the last day was strong. He never lost his faith is God. He would let us know every day that he was not going to be with us for too long. He is now at peace with his parents and free of pain. We will miss him every day.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Sylvia and Gracie.
He is survived by his life time companion of 27 years, Alma, sons; Eddie (Stacey) De La Torre, Ray De La Torre. daughters; Alexis (Oscar) Davila from Corpus Christi, Laurie De La Torre from Houston, TX, Gracie (Fred) Bueno, from San Diego, TX. brothers; Roque (Bertha) Marez from Corpus Christi, Jessie (Diana) De La Torre, from Corpus Christi, and sister; Rosie Rincon, from Corpus Christi; 15 grandchildren, and best friend of 60 years Tony Amador.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne Street. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm with a Prayer Service to follow at 7:00 pm. Service will conclude at that time.
