Johnie Joe Balcar

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Becci Balcar; brothers, Emil and Adolph; sisters, Lillian Balcar, Marrian Walzel, Irene Goyon, and Lorene Taylor. John is survived by his wife, Valerie; daughters, Sandra Garza, Carol Balcar; son, Charles Balcar; grandchildren, Sarah Hernandez, Christine Tamez, Domingo Garza IV, Laura Balcar, Charles (CJ) Balcar, Grace Balcar; and 3 great-grandchildren.

John graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron, Texas and attended Temple Junior College and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. He worked for H-E-B Grocery Company in Austin, Temple and Corpus Christi. He retired in 1992 after 38 years. He became a Master Gardener soon after he retired and taught swimming and water exercise classes for seniors at Del Mar College. In 1994 he joined the Plumeria Society of South Texas where he served as president for 9 years.

A visitation for Johnie will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415 with a funeral service starting at 2:00 PM. An entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
