Janet McCainAlstonJanet McCain Alston, 84, passed away March 7, 2018 in Kyle, Texas. Janet truly had a servant’s heart and lived her life in humble devotion to her family and her community. Janet was born March 20, 1933 in Oakville, Texas to CB and Thelma Muriel McCain. The family moved to Corpus Christi, where Janet graduated from high school and married Hurshell Alston.
Janet took joy in raising her three daughters and volunteered through their school years. She was an Honorary Chapter Parent of the Future Homemakers of America organization that her daughters were active in. Later she went to work for the school district as a secretary at Clarkwood and Tuloso Midway Elementaries. She eventually moved to the Administrative Office of the School District and continued there until she retired. Janet and Hurshell celebrated 65 years of marriage on June 16, 2015.
Janet also helped lead Sunday school classes at Tuloso Midway Baptist Church in Corpus and served along with Hurshell on the communion committee at First Baptist Church of Boerne, when they retired to the hill country.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hurshell Alston, her parents CB and Muriel McCain, sister Bobby Parker and brothers Gladwell , Dalton and Elvis McCain.
Her memories will be cherished by her daughters and their husbands, Gwynetta & Pat Grant, Lynette & Roger Whiddon, and Jeanine & Ric Seale. “Mamma”, as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren, are Chris Grant, Stephanie Guillory, Chad Keys, Nicole Rosson, Elisa Howell, Kim East, Shaun Seale, Brian Seale, and Tiffany Seale. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Connor, Will, Chloe, Keira, Brianna, Trinity, Seth, Carlie, Cole, Grayson, Matthew, Justin, Dylan, Aiden, Arianna, Caedmon, Brenin, and Kayla; also her sisters and brothers, Melva Groom, Doyle McCain, Neva Thompson, and Dwain McCain.
Janet Alston was loved by all who knew her. She lived her life in the Lord Jesus. She will be remembered for her sweet smile, her kind words and a tendency to place the needs of others before her own.
A special thank you to her caregivers at New Haven Memory Care in Kyle, Texas these last two years. A special thanks to Corine Gray and Lupita Hernandez, who provided tender loving care to our Mom. Also Encompass Home Health, especially, RN Jessica Hodge, who went above and beyond her duties, because she loved and cared for Janet for two years.
Services will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road in Corpus Christi, Texas 78415 on Saturday, March 10, with visitation at 1:00 pm and services at 2:00 p.m. with a burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
