Gilbert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was baptized in 1972, as one of Jehovah's Witness. He shared many beautiful and exciting experiences with his family, who will miss him immensely.
Gilbert had a profound and unconditional love for his wife Maria Aminta Garcia as well as his family-- consistently showing this through every word and action. Simply put, he was truly a man among men.
We will continue to appreciate the values he instilled in us, and constantly recall with love and tenderness every cherished memory we have of him. We look forward to seeing him soon in Paradise.
Gilbert Garcia was always a hard worker. Even at a young age, he used to shine shoes in the uptown area. He began working for the Dragon Grill (which later became the Corpus Christi Town Club) as a teenager in 1942, working his way up from a bus boy to the assistant general manager. He proudly dedicated over 50 years of service to the Town Club before his retirement.
Generations of Town Club members knew, loved, and respected him, and at his retirement, the Board extended a membership to both Gilbert and Aminta for all his dedicated years of service. His dedication and work ethic were recognized not only in the work place but in everything he did. He was an amazing provider for his family, and the family always came first.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 73 years, Maria Aminta Garcia, whom he married on April 23, 1950, in Mercedes, Texas. The couple moved to Corpus Christi shortly after their wedding to establish their lives and family.
He is also survived by his daughter, Eunice G. Cantu (David, Leslie, Mark, and Jessica); his daughter-in-law, Sabrina Z. Garcia; his son, Robert Garcia (Missy, Ryan, and Cameron); and six great-grandchildren (Julian, Leif, Jason, Jaxon, Mark, and Eliora).
He leaves an extended family of nieces and nephews and other relatives representing the Garcia, Galvan, Cantu, and Handy families, all of whom loved him dearly.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his son, Gilbert Garcia Jr. and granddaughter, Shannon Brooke Garcia Santa Cruz. He is also preceded in death by his parents and 13 older siblings.
