Frank A. Morrison, 84, passed away April 16, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was born July 28, 1926 in Sherman, Texas to Claude and Lucille Morrison. After graduating from Sherman High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. One year later, his division was assigned to the cleanup effort after the atomic bombs dropped on Japan ended World War II. Upon returning from Japan, he was honorably discharged from the Army on July 28, 1946, his 20th birthday. Soon thereafter, he was waiting for a bus at the corner of Travis St. and Lamar St. in Sherman, Texas and casually struck up a conversation with Jean Sims, who was waiting for the same bus. At the time, neither knew they would be future husband and wife. They were married on December 21, 1947 and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Frank graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Geology. After graduation, he was hired by Panhandle Petroleum and brought his wife and baby daughter to Corpus Christi to begin a long career as a Petroleum Geologist. In October of 1967, he partnered with Leo McCloskey, a Petroleum Engineer, to form Mormac Oil & Gas Company. Together, they owned and operated the company for over 20 years. After retiring from the oil business, Frank enjoyed spending days at his ranch in Goliad County with family and friends. The ranch was a favorite getaway where family members would spend many fall weekends hunting dove, quail, and deer. There were plenty of afternoon barbeques followed by beautiful sunsets. He also enjoyed playing golf and staying at the family condo at the Hills of Lakeway resort near Austin, Texas. When it started to get hot under the South Texas summer sun, Frank and Jean would migrate north to their condo in Beaver Creek, Colorado to play golf and enjoy the cooler climate. Prior to moving back to Corpus Christi, Frank and Jean resided in Victoria, Texas, where they were longtime members of Central Church of Christ. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Lytane Bolzle and the staff at Holmgreen Center at Trinity Towers for the excellent care Frank received over the past nine months. A special heartfelt thanks goes to Brenda Garcia and Sherry Laurel for all the loving care they have provided. Vista Care Hospice is also appreciated for all their help during the past two weeks.
Frank was preceded in death by a son, Steven Morrison.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son, Frank (Tracy) Morrison, Jr. of Corpus Christi; two daughters: Sharon (Jerome) Smith of Houston, Texas, and Carla (Craig) Elsken of Willow Park, Texas; a brother, Bill (Sue) Morrison of Richardson, Texas; two sisters: June (Alton) Kiser of Minden, Louisiana, and Beverly Hansard of Houston, Texas; he is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
