He graduated as a member of Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society from Foy H. Moody High School and he attended the University of Texas at Austin. After the death of his father and mother, he supervised the family’s bar, Avila’s Beer Garden. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
As a true South Texan, he loved to go to the ranch, BBQ, fish, cook his catch of the day while listening to blues music and drinking a cold one with his family and friends. Guero always had something to say especially if you were cutting his BBQ wrong and he was quick to tease you and crack jokes. He lived life to the fullest and he was always there for you when you needed him. He looked forward to the holidays. It was important to him to make them special for his family, especially his grandchildren. He always put himself in charge of getting the pinata for his grandchildren at Easter, making the Easter BBQ, Thanksgiving dressing and the Christmas ham. We are all going to miss him tremendously and the memories we all have will be forever cherished and the holiday traditions upheld in his honor.
Guero is preceded in death by his father and mother.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Sophia Avila, Sarah Avila and Christina Avila. He has his 4 grandchildren, Christian Cavazos, Michael Cavazos, Javohn Flores, and Felicity Alvarado. He also has 3 brothers, Victor F. Avila Jr. (Josie), Joe Avila (Rose) and Arnold Avila (Dorothy) and his 1 favorite sister, Miriam Gutierrez.
