He was born on October 20, 1936 to Santos and Amelia Briones. He was a faithful member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.
He graduated from Ray High School and the University Of Texas Pharmacy School.
He proudly served in the United States Army and Navy Reserve.
He met his wife, Maria who was a nurse, while they were both working at Memorial Medical Center. They were married on November 27, 1970.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maria (Lupe), Briones and his children, Daniel Jr. (Ramell), Maricela Hernandez (Lee), Veronica Martinez (Chris), and Omar; his grandchildren Mireya, Corina, Nicholas and Marcos Hernandez, Alexa, Andres, Ariana and Alec Martinez, and Aiden, Chloe, and Callie Briones. He is also survived by his sisters Janie Cantu, Maria Elena Briones, brother’s Jose Santos and Ramon Briones. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He loved his family and was loved by his family. He was generous, hard-working, and intelligent. Daniel was also deeply religious, attending church three times a week. He always cheered for the underdog and helped many people during his life. He wanted his loved ones to have what they needed. Daniel was an avid reader with a keen interest in World History.
He was a devoted and fanatical Texas Longhorn fan (Hook ‘em). He instilled his belief that education was important in all of his children. He will always be remembered for his love and adoration for his grandchildren, each of whom he loved dearly.
While all of Daniel’s loved ones will miss him dearly, his absence will be deeply felt by his sister, Maria Elena, for whom he was the primary caretaker for the last 30 years.
The family would like to acknowledge and give a special thank you to the medical and nursing staff in the ICU Unit at Doctor’s Regional Medical Center.
