May 8, 1936 - November 14, 2024
Albert Earl Garbe, lovingly known as "Sonny," was born on May 8, 1936, in Port Lavaca, Texas, and passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Sonny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, gr-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.
Sonny was married for 65 years to his run-away bride, Connie Jo Stanfield, who preceded him in death this past August. Together, they raised four children, two of whom, Todd and Ashley, have also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Machael Dawn Beckwith (Jerry) and Melysa Anne Vestal (Joey), who rejoice in the peace their father has found.
Sonny spent his working years in the oil industry with Standard Oil, Otis Engineering, and Diamond Wireline. Beyond his professional success, he was well-known for his culinary skills, building BBQ pit trailers, and cooking on-site for customers-a true testament to his resourcefulness and generosity.
An avid outdoorsman, Sonny cherished his frequent hunting trips to Colorado with his brother Jack and close friends. His passion for fishing led him to design and build his own airboats, showcasing his remarkable talent and quiet determination.
Sonny was the oldest of three children. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Earleen Disbro (Johnny), and is survived by his younger brother and best friend, Jackie Wayne Garbe (Donna). His eight grandchildren-Cassie (Steven), Sierra (JP), Hailey (Angus), Jared, Kidron (Joshua), Sunny (Brent), Stetson (Kimberly), and Kylee (Stephen) will forever cherish his memory and tight hugs. Sonny also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren, Maxwell, Ellie, Memphis, Jude, Harper, Barrett, Callum, Bennett, Sonny, and two yet-to-be-born. His beloved nieces and nephews are Kathy, Sissy, Donna Sue, John, Greg, and Guy.
Sonny's strength, talent, and quiet humility left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His family and friends take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Connie and other loved ones, free from suffering.
A funeral service honoring Sonny's life, officiated by Brent Hays, will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Pallbearers will include Joey Vestal, Jerry Beckwith, Stetson Vestal, Stephen Silva, Greg Garbe, Guy Garbe, Chet Emmons, and Steven Wetherell.
Sonny will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, strength, and quiet accomplishment will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
