Alvin “John” Clark of Corona Del Mar, CA passed away on July 19, 2013 at home with his family at his side, after a valiant 7 year battle with GBM brain cancer. John was born on November 3, 1953, in Wooster, Ohio. He graduated from Berea High School, in Ohio. He served in the Army, and afterwards moved to the San Fernando Valley, CA and worked at Princess Cruises for 23 years as Office Services Manager, where he made many lifelong and dear friends. He was active in the Mail System Management Association and the local Postal Customer Council, which is how he met his wife Gayle. Cruising was John’s passion, and he loved following the Cleveland Indians and Browns teams. When he got married he moved to Orange County, CA and retired in 1998 to help raise his daughter Sara. He served as an usher at St. Matthews church in Newport Beach and enjoyed participating in church social events. He volunteered at Lincoln Elementary School, served on the PTA board and coached AYSO soccer teams. His crowning achievement was the love, care and total dedication raising his daughter Sara.
John is survived by his wife Gayle Clark, daughter Sara Clark, mother Maryrose Garman, stepfather William Garman of Berea, OH, brother Greg Clark of Elyria, OH, half brother Dirk Garman, of Berea, OH, aunt Annette Hilliard of Oceanside, CA, aunt and uncle Lenore Averell and Lawrence Averell of Vista, uncle and aunt Claren Sommer and Jean Sommer Independence, OH, aunt Pearl Moon, Piqua, OH and cousins Erol Sommer, Keith Goudy, Bonnie Hackett, Susan Hopkins, Ned Kern, and Michael Kern.
He was predeceased by his brother Tim Clark, father William Duane Clark, aunt Elvera Goudy and grandparents Alvin Boyd, Bertha Sommer, John Alva Clark and Opal Clark Swinehart.
Requiem Service will be held Monday, July 22, 2013 St. Matthews Church, 2300 Ford Rd., Newport Beach, CA 92660.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Andrews Church, 23114 W Rd, Olmsted Falls, OH 44138
