Although Jim was born in MN, he grew up in the City of Buena Park where he met his wife Sharon at Savanna High School.
Jim started his career in roofing and then pursued his dream of being a firefighter. He became a member of the Orange County Fire Authority in 1980 and served the City of Irvine his entire career.
Jim was a 30-year veteran firefighter, paramedic, hazardous-material team member and Federal Urban Search and Rescue program member.
Jim enjoyed doing anything outdoors whether it was off-road activities, surfing, camping or spending time with his family. Jim was also an avid fisherman who would occasionally volunteer as a deckhand on the Dana Pride at the Dana Point Harbor, and had expressed interest in obtaining a mariner license when he retired.
Jim is survived by his wife Sharon and their three sons, Jimmy (28), Daniel (19) and Kevin (16), his parents, Beverly and Douglas Owen, his brothers, Robert and Jeff, and his sister Debra.
The service will be held at Mariner’s Church in Irvine on Thursday, September 23, at 11:00 A.M., and is open to the public.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: OCFA Benevolent Association, 1 Fire Authority Road, Suite AE163, Irvine, CA 92602 and please specify Owen Family Fund.
