-- Greg Ayers describing his lovely wife Georgia
Georgia May Maddox Ayers was definitely a force of life, energy, excitement and joy. Her love for life and her desire to make sure she (and everyone around her) was having a good time was a thing to behold. From her early days as a cheerleader at Yuba City High School (let’s go Honkers!) she established her personality as a free-spirited, fun-loving social butterfly. Her future husband went to a school on the other side of the bridge but their connection overrode the crosstown rivalry.
Greg and Georgia were married in Reno, NV on July 3, 1965 as a couple of 23-year-olds and began a family. After a few years living in Walnut Creek they decided to move and set-up roots in Huntington Beach (and their kids were forever thankful for the decision).
While she did love to have fun and joke around, she did take the responsibility of being a Mom/homemaker very seriously. Always encouraging her three kids to try new things and experience all they can out of life (sometimes having to gently “force” the kids to try something new). No matter the situation or event going on, she was always there for her kids as a true Mama Bear. When her husband decided to venture out and start a new business (with 3 high school age kids) she took a part-time job doing bookkeeping for a property manager to help pay the bills. While running a household and working a job she still managed to take part in some of her favorite activities like her monthly Bunco game or attending shows at the South Coast Repertory or her bowling league. She even played in an adult soccer league for a few years until injuring her ankle.
Later in life she took up golf to spend more time with her husband and despite not really caring about the intricate parts of the game could drive the ball straight down the fairway every-time (something she didn’t pass down to her sons). She was a great water skier and even got her husband to try boogie boarding in HB.
When she became a grandma to two beautiful girls, she again displayed her zest for life and trying new activities. Swimming in her pool with the youngsters, reading to them, painting with them were some of the fun things she did with them.
Georgia May Maddox Ayers will forever live in our memories and hearts for her friendly smile, her wonderful laugh and the way she approached life like a 5’2” Giant.
