Ed grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One of five children, his first job after high school was as a craftsman with the Bell Telephone Company. Several years later, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served two years and spent time in one of the Army’s first data processing units in Stuttgart, Germany, where he met his beloved wife Corinne.
Upon returning home and to working for the Bell Telephone Company, Ed enrolled in the Drexel University Evening College and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in 1967. While steadily rising through Bell Telephone, Ed enrolled in the Chartered Financial Analyst program on his own time. His passion for finance being recognized, in 1983, Ed was appointed the Chief Investment Officer for all of Bell Atlantic Corporation’s pension and benefit plans. In 1987, he was voted one of “America’s Best Pension Officers” in a prestigious poll of institutional investors conducted by Institutional Investor magazine.
Ed retired from Bell Atlantic at the end of 1990 and was invited to join the Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) in Newport Beach, CA as a Director. In 1996, Ed moved to Singapore to open PIMCO’s first foreign office. He and Corinne enjoyed two wonderful years living overseas. He retired from PIMCO at the end of 1998 with plans to start his own financial planning business.
In 1999, Ed founded Rennie & Associates, a financial planning company. The company has grown steadily since its inception and is proudly carried on by his son Gary. He devoted many of his non-working hours to the Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa where he served as President in 2003-04.
In 2006, Ed published The Beginning of The End of My Life, a book about his battle with leukemia—and other things. Fortunately, the disease remained in remission for the remainder of his life.
Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Corinne; his three sons and their wives Gary & Angela, Robert & Celia, and Jeffrey & Michi; four grandchildren Josh, Ian, Alice, and Maisie; and four siblings, Don Rennie and Joan, his wife, Jim Rennie and Eleanor, his wife (deceased), Carole Rennie (Bagin) and Don, her husband (deceased), Evie Rennie (Alkins) and Ray, her husband,
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 25th, at 2:00 pm at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar with a reception to follow. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made in Ed’s name to The City of Hope, which saved him from leukemia.
