Carol Susan Casey, of Huntington Beach, CA, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2020 in Newport Beach, CA. She was born on September 19, 1940 in Caldwell, Idaho to Roscoe Conklin Scott and Pearl Amanda Davis. Known to her siblings as “Carol Sue”, she was the youngest of 9 children. Shortly after her birth, the family moved back to Mountain Grove, Missouri where they spent a few years on a property that she once described as looking like “some place straight out of the Grapes of Wrath.” A few years later the family then moved to California. Carol’s mom passed away when she was 9 years old and it was then that Carol started her lifelong career of service to others, starting in the home where she helped care for her father who was disabled.
Carol married Charles Allen Casey, Jr on December 21, 1963. After living in Downey, CA for a few years, they moved to Huntington Beach, CA where they would stay.
Carol was a lover of simple things. Some of her favorites included reading books, watching movies and eating flavored marshmallows or Fiddle Faddle. Her friends describe her as sweet and always wearing a smile. She loved to laugh, especially at herself. She served her friends and family tirelessly despite struggling with rheumatoid arthritis for most of her adult life, all without complaint. All of her friends have a “Carol story” of some kind where she showed up just when they needed someone and always seemed to know what they needed to be cheered up. She served with all of her heart and soul.
Carol never met a stranger which is a trait she shared with most of the Scott family. She could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere and make them feel like they had been friends forever. She always made time to listen to her friends and family. One of her greatest attributes was her loyalty and regard for people’s privacy. She was not one to share anything someone told her even if confidence was not implied. She made people feel safe to share their struggles and listened without judgment and with great compassion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Casey, Jr., parents Roscoe and Pearl Scott, and siblings Emmett Scott, Everett Scott, Earl Scott, Charles Scott, Helen Scott, RC Scott, Arthur Scott, and Paul Scott. She is now enjoying a glorious reunion with her family.
She is survived by her son-Christian Casey, daughter-Kelli Van Pinxteren and four grandchildren-Kimberly Casey, Jayden Van Pinxteren, Elena Van Pinxteren and Charliane Van Pinxteren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Carol, find someone in need of cheering up and reach out to them. That was her focus in life and service is her legacy.
