Loving wife, best friend, and partner of Harold McRae for many years of fun and adventures. Supportive and creative mother of Benjamin McRae (Cindy McRae) and Sara McRae (Mathew Ladouceur). Caring and generous grandmother to Madison and Abigail McRae, Addisyn and Ainsley Ladouceur. Kind and fun aunt to Kyle Handy (Melissa), Tracy Butler (Kevin), and Alex Menard, and great aunt to Audrey Butler.
Predeceased by her father James O’Neill, from whom she proudly carried her Irish heritage. Survived by her mother Cecile O’Neill, brother Brian O’Neill, sister Debbie O’Neill, and brother Randy O’Neill (Jocelynne Menard).
Peggy had just turned 65 years old and was so hard working she never had the opportunity to retire from her profession serving the public as a hairdresser. Her clients followed her from her home business, to Dagenais East End Beauty Salon, to Peggy’s Place, and finally to Capri and McConnell Manor over the years and were pampered and listened to on every visit. Her loyalty to her customers and attention to detail was obvious in the amount of lives she touched through her work.
Peggy was balanced, patient, calm, and selfless. She loved walking everyday, being in nature, listening to and watching the birds, singing and dancing along to her favourite music, being creative through jewelry making, painting, gardening and canning.
Peggy touched so many lives through her home cooking, knitting, volunteering through the CWL, various committees and activities her children were involved in while growing up. Her welcoming presence and non-judgemental approach encouraged anyone around her to lean on her in times of need. Her contagious laugh and bright spirit drew many and all to her. She always remembered what everyone’s favourite food was at family gatherings and what their strengths were so she could help remind them and help celebrate them.
Peggy’s selfless service to the people in her life will leave a huge gap in the hearts and lives of those whom she touched. It will take many a long time to re-learn how to live in a physical world without her. Her strong link to spirituality and nature will not be forgotten. She was a fixer of broken hearts, a mender of ripped clothes, a watcher of soccer, hockey games and highland dancing. Peggy was a lifelong teacher to her kids, family, and friends on how to live a life appreciating the simple things.
Peggy always chose people first. Her kindness, generosity and love for life will be missed everyday. Her family will celebrate her by attempting to carry on her loving traits. No one was quite like Peggy.
Please help celebrate Peggy’s life on Tuesday May 28th 2024 between 1-4pm at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Home, West Branch 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482) and join her friends and family for a beverage and a bite during the visitation or afterwards between 4-6pm.
