John Allan McGillis

MCGILLIS, John Allan – At the Hospice Cornwall on Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was 88. Loving husband of the late Joan (Bingley) McGillis. Dear father of Elizabeth (Frank Burke), Alana (Richard Huntley) and Angela (Jim Martell). Sadly missed by 9 grandchildren, Erin, Scott, Derek, Allan, Emma, Sarah, Ian, James and Tyler and 2 great-grandchildren, Noah and Edyn. Predeceased by his parents, James and Agnes (Seymour) McGillis, two brothers, Harold McGillis and James McGillis, two half-brothers, Arnold and William Burrows and one half-sister, Hildred Pennino. Allan was the original coach and trainer of the Cornwall Boxing Club and later became a judge at many competitions in Canada and the U.S. Allan was well known in the Cornwall area for his pool playing and won many competitions into his senior years. Friends will be received at the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall on Thursday from 3 – 5pm & 7 - 9 pm and on Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Funeral Mass, Friday, January 22, 2016 at St. Columban’s Catholic Church at 11 am. Rite of Committal, St. Columban’s Parish Cemetery at a later date.
