THOMPSON, Clara Ann – passed away at her home surrounded by family on Wednesday July 26, 2023 at the age of 68 years. Beloved wife of Donald Martin. Dear mother of Norman Benedict, April Benedict (Ken Square) and Cory Benedict (McKayla) and stepmother of Jamie Martin (Karey), Chris Martin and Amanda Martin. Cherished grandmother of Chase (Amanda), Alexandra, Jade (Will), Kenzie, Damian, McKayla and Gauge and step-grandmother of Randy, Mariah, Marissa and Maranda. Very proud great-grandmother of Carter, Maylee, Leilani and Maddy. Dear sister of Elizabeth (Morris), Debbie (Buck), Wanda, Donna (Phillip), Monie (Paul), Barbara, Cecilia (Dan), Janet (Larry), Carl (Theresa), Ken (Kim) and Russell. Survived by her precious godchildren Tina Benedict, Laurie Thompson, Aaron Arquette, Tanner Stickney, Chase, Alex and Kenzie Benedict and Nicholas and Ryan Villeneuve. Clara is predeceased by her parents George and Emma (née Lazore) Thompson, her foster parents Betty and Joe Laronde, her grandmother Annie and by her siblings Minerva, Louis, Gary and Dolsie. Chosen children Stephanie and Tanya , Tina and Mary.
Before Clara worked for 23 years as a PSW and retired due to health reasons, she committed to staying home to raise her family. Clara also worked at Levis, Courtaulds Cornwall and Benedicts Arcade and Restaurant. Some of Clara’s passions included listening to music, playing radio bingo and cards, collecting antiques, native artwork and ceramics. Clara loved to travel and go for car rides. Clara was fortunate enough to travel to Virginia Beach with her family and created some great memories. What she loved to do best was to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to Clara. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482).
Resting at the family home, 1246 Island Road, Akwesasne, ON from 1:00 p.m. Monday July 31, 2023 until time of Service on Tuesday August 1, 2023 at 2pm followed by cremations. Memorial meal to follow.
