FORTIER, Anna May- peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Wednesday January 13, 2021. Anna May Fortier (nee Laponsee) of Cornwall; age 85. Beloved wife of the late Richard “Dick” Fortier. Loving mother of Jeanne (Henry) Holden and Michel Fortier, both of Cornwall. Cherished grandmother of Dylan, James Jackson and Stephanie (Derick Cormier ) all of Cornwall. Dear sister of Danny (Sue) Laponsee, Leo Laponsee, Sybil Lalonde, Frances (Frank) Pitre and Janet Delaney, all of Cornwall, sisters-in-law Lyn and Shirley. Also remembered by in-laws Jeanine and Bill Watters of Brockville . Sadly missed by several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Predeceased by her parents Leo and Janet Laponsee, sisters Mavis and Connie, brothers John, George and Arthur, brothers-in-law Roy Baker, William Barnhart and Michael Delaney.
" Anna 's words of wisdom, terrific laugh, lively singing, and constant love of family leave indelible imprints on our hearts. Over the years she did some fashion modelling, enjoyed a few card games of Rummy family and friends, cross country skied in a club, tended a nice little flower garden, volunteered her time with important causes, and, after retirement, travelled throughout parts of Canada and the U.S with her husband and some dear family and friends. Christmas and New Year's celebrations were particularly great family times.
Her greatest joys were welcoming her three sweet grandchildren. They shared many unforgettable times with her.
As a graduate jeweller in 1957 and a young bride, Anna May eventually worked in customer service with the well established "Pommier Jewellers" of Cornwall in a career that spanned over 30 years. She saw many changes while working, raising a family and, for a time, helped care for her dear mother-in-law.
Sadly, although the pandemic harshly ended Anna May's days among us during the last few years, she faced the incredible difficulties of Alzheimer's yet always maintained her cheerful independent spirit. We thank the dear folks of Lancaster LTC for their support and we have many fond memories from her time there.
As a tribute to Anna, on these days of her memorial, we ask simply of those who knew her to please wear a favorite piece of jewelry to commemorate her sparkle and shine in life . Respectfully, this gesture will connect us all in remembering her beyond the distances...
