Max Wade Lancaster, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at his home. Born on March 11, 1930 to Paul J. and Era Mattox Lancaster, Mr. Lancaster was a lifelong resident of Alcorn County. He married Peggy Johnsey on May 17, 1952. He served as a member of the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a retired farmer and businessman. He ran a sawmill in Union County, MS, was a producer of Bermuda grass, providing sprigging service throughout the mid-south, and enjoyed raising cattle. He was well known as a musician who enjoyed playing the fiddle. He used his talent to entertain the local nursing facility residents. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27 at Memorial Funeral Home with a visitation between 11:00 and service time. Doc Shelton and Raybon Richardson will officiate the service with Trevor Williams sharing the eulogy written by Jill Haley. Burial will be in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Peggy Johnsey Lancaster. One daughter, Jan Haley and her husband Jeff of Corinth. One son, Fred Lancaster and his wife Aimee of Corinth. Grandchildren include Jill Haley and Michael Crumby of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Jake Haley and Josh Haley of Corinth and Tyler Brock of Corinth; One Brother, Garvin Lancaster and his wife Clara Faye of Corinth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Era Mattox Lancaster and one brother, Howard Lancaster.
Pall Bearers include Jake Haley, Josh Haley, Michael Crumby, Tyler Brock, Jimmy Crow, and Trent Eaton. Honorary Pall Bearers include Price “Pud” Turner, Norman Searcy, Billy Eaton, Mike McClamroch, Grady Kuykendall, and Ernest Jobe.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26 between 5:00pm – 8:00pm at the funeral home.
