Celebration of Life for Leck Counce, 86, will be Wednesday, 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Box Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 - 2:00 pm at the church, when the celebration service will commence. Rev. John Garrott will officiate the services.
Leck passed away on June 25, 2022 at Magnolia Regional Hospital after a brief and sudden illness. He was born Leslie Nolen on March 12, 1936 to the late James R. and Hazel Smith Counce. He was a 1954 graduate of Farmington High School, upon graduation he entered into the U.S. Navy, actively serving for 5 years. Leck, an industrial engineer, spent his professional career at ITT. Starting on the loading docks and working his way to the position of Vice President and Plant Manager, he retired from there in 1989. His passion in life was golf and he loved playing the game. He and his family and friends were early water-skiers at Pickwick, a spot that always held a special place in his heart. Leck played basketball at Farmington High School and enjoyed traveling far and wide with friends for a good basketball game. Anyone who encountered Leck knows that he never met a stranger, cultivating a vast group of friends whom he considered extended family. Lovingly known as PopPop by his grandchildren, he was an active member of First United Methodist Church and Challenger Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Hammett Counce; sons, Mike Counce (Carole) of Cordova, TN, Scott Counce (Katherine) of Black Mountain, NC, and Jason Counce (Michelle) of Cordova, TN; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Norah, Rip, Lila, and Lucy; sister, Sue Lynn (Billy); brother-in-law, Jerry Hammett (Pat); and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Collin Parker Counce; and brothers, James and Johnny Counce.
Pallbearers will be Todd Hammett, Torey Hammett, Hayden Hammett, Layton Hammett, Jordan Hammett and Ryan Hammett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Leck Counce to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, First United Methodist Church of Corinth, or the charity of one’s choice.
