James founded J.E. Phillips & Sons Inc. in March 1960 as an U.S. mail contractor. He enjoyed fishing, going to horse shows, and was a big fan of watching his son and granddaughters participate in the Tennessee Walking Horse Circuit.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors Chapel with Bro. Johnny Worley officiating. Burial will be in Baptist Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5pm until 8pm and Thursday from 12 noon until service time.
Survivors include one son, Billy Ray Phillips (Linda) of Hernando, Ms.; one brother, H.B. Phillips (Joyce) of Germantown, Tn.; three grandchildren, Sandra Phillips Carver, LaDina Brunetti, and Louie Smith (Leigh Ann); six great grandchildren, Amanda Carver, Ashley Carver, Anna Carver, Sara Skiles, Isabella and Emilia Smith all of Hernando, Ms.; and a host of other family, friends, and employees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Neal and Ethel Mathis Phillips; his wife, Minnie Irene Phillips; and one son, Jerry Wade Phillips.
Memorial may be made to the Mallory Mayhall Fund 2055 Hwy 51N Nesbit, Ms. 38651.
