William Clyde (Billy Clyde) Burns, 83, of Corinth passed away after a long battle with cancer on January 18, 2024 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
He was born on January 15, 1941 to the late Clyde and Velma Jackson Burns. Billy Clyde grew up in Glen and was a lifelong resident of Alcorn County and political fixture in the community. A talented and dedicated law enforcement officer of nearly 40 years, he served with distinction in the Mississippi Department. He was wounded in the line of duty in October of 1969. He was a pioneer in the field of Criminal Investigation, bringing modern forensic techniques to North Mississippi at a time when few had training to do so. His legacy can be seen today in the generation of investigators he trained. He also occasionally served as a guest lecturer at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He retired in 2002 and could be found playing Dominoes at Dellinger's Fish Farm with his friends.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bettye Burns Williams (Jimmy); a niece, Vicky Williams Haynes; and a great nephew, Justin Williams.
Billy is survived by his wife of 55 years, LaWanda; son, Alan (Tammy) and their daughter Scarlett Williams all of Tupelo; and several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
