Vilma was born on May 6, 1933 in Callao, Peru to Carlos and Florencia Hoyle. She was one of four children. She married her eternal love, Antero Buendia Pozo, on April 5, 1956 at Scott AFB in Illinois. She made “home” wherever the Air Force sent them in the United States and overseas. They raised five children – Andy, Rocio, Chari, Norma, and Carlos. She also had a special love for her “adopted” son, Peter Copeskey. Besides being an amazing, loving, and supportive military wife and mother, Vilma was a beloved Abuelita and great-grandmother. Her best friend in life was her sister, Nelly.
Vilma was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She remained friends with her school friends from Peru and attended reunions regularly. She cherished her South Florida friends and all of the friendships she made while traveling the world as an Air Force wife and participating in the NCO Wives Club and Catholic Church women’s groups at various bases. Her love for travel remained with her throughout her life.
Vilma was preceded in death by her husband, Antero; daughter, Rocio; parents, Carlos and Florencia; and brothers, William and Douglas. She is survived by her children, Andy, Chari, Norma, and Carlos; her granddaughters, Annemarie (Lucas), Gabriela (Jared), Elisabeth and Delaney; her great-grandchildren, Gemma and River; her sister, Nelly and brother-in-law, Enrique; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
