John P. Sommerer Jr.

John is survived by his wife, Diane; children, James, John, Paul and Matthew and 5 grand-children. He is preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Jurdjevic of Toronto, Canada.

John was born on October 30th, 1947 in Mount Holly, NJ to John Sommerer Sr. and Barbara E. Davis Sommerer. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1971 with a Master’s degree in Business. He married Diane, in 1967 and over their 55 years together, the couple welcomed 4 sons into their home and John set about teaching them stewardship and community service. His children remember him as a supportive father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

John was a good motivator, consensus builder, and cared deeply about his family and his many friends. He was a knowledgeable individual who loved history and who was passionate about the community. He was an active and dedicated member of the Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church, and founding member of the Coral Springs Community Chest, and often volunteered at for many other charities.

A memorial mass is scheduled for September 2nd at 2PM at Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saint Vincent de Paul Society at 9950 NW 29th Street, Coral Springs, FL. The family would like to thank John’s caregivers for their care and compassion.
