Mr. Turner passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at his home.
Terry Nelson Turner was born July 16, 1938 in El Paso, Texas to John Louis “Ben” and Vida Grace Morgan Turner. He attended school in the El Paso area before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico. He met and married Clara Pittman there on August 2, 1958 . They moved about with the military but have considered this area home since 1972.
Mr. Turner retired from the US Army, as a First Sergeant, after 22 years of service. He served in Armored Units in Alaska, Germany, and Korea, and as a Drill Instructor in Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Knox, Kentucky. During his time in the service he received may certifications and medals for exemplary performance of duty.
After retirement from the military in 1981, he worked as an Electrician for numerous Electrical companies in the Copperas Cove and Killeen areas and owned his own electrical subcontracting business, TNT Electric. He was employed as an Electrician with Central Texas College at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Duke Lee Turner Jr. and Jacob Isaiah Moody.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Clara Pittman Turner of Kempner, a son and his wife, Duke Lee and Donna Lornson Turner of Kempner; three daughters and their husbands, Dori Turner Moody and her husband, Craig Moody of Killeen, Helen Turner Gonzales and her husband, Rick Gonzales of Gatesville, and Rachel Turner Bennett and her husband, Kareem Bennett of Copperas Cove; three sisters, Mildred Jo Bamberg and Rebecca Jan Skinner and her husband, Johnny, all of Mineola; and Nancy Lee Meagher and her husband, Michael, of Anacortes, WA.; 12 grandchildren: Marie Turner, Brandie Turner Davis, Javon Bennett, Joshua Moody, Tanner Gonzales, Zachary Moody, Dariann Gonzales, Augustus Turner, Edan Turner, Arianna Bennett, Alexia Bennett, Jackson Turner, and 1 great grandchild Ryan Arnold.
