Robert S. Turner, age 75, passed away on October 26, 2024, in Killeen, Texas. Born and raised in Troy, New York, Bob grew up and was raised on Turner Farm. Where he developed a lifelong love for horses along with his siblings his brother Richard Turner, and predeceased by his beloved sister, Gail Olszowy.
After proudly serving his country as a Combat Engineer in the United States Army. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his dedication. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree from The College of Saint Rose, exemplifying his commitment to learning and growth. Bob worked for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and started his own business. You could find him in the yellow pages under “The Telephone Man”. He later transitioned to installing fiber optic infrastructure for Hudson Valley Community College.
Bob was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Lacey (Dustin) Purciful. Who blessed him with two grandchildren Jaxson and Layla, who affectionately called him “Poppy.” He is also survived by his son, Elliott (Nicole) Turner. He will be embraced on the other side by his parents Arthur C. Turner and Florence M. Flanagan and his beloved dog, Peanut.
An avid volunteer for the Special Olympics, Bob was passionate about helping others and dedicated countless hours raising funds for care packages for soldiers overseas. Known for his knack for storytelling and a mischievous sense of humor “Did I tell you the one about….”, he delighted family and friends with jokes—both appropriate and otherwise—and spread laughter wherever he went. Bob’s family invites those who knew him to celebrate his life by sharing a memory, a laugh, or a small act of kindness in his honor. In lieu of flowers, they encourage donations to the Special Olympics or a Veterans’ support organization close to your heart.
