Not soon after, he moved with his family and spent most of his childhood years in New Haven, Missouri, and was raised by Shirley and his Step-Father, William Hiatt (deceased). As a child, he enjoyed the great outdoors that included hunting and fishing. He had always aspired to join the military as well.
After fathering his first son, Richard Allen Stone Jr., Richard senior was able to join the United States Army. From there, he excelled in his calling and took pride in wearing the uniform and serving his country. It wasn’t long after when he was stationed in South Korea, he met Chong Yol Lee during a time when he was out exploring the different culture, which he so often liked.
As their relationship grew, they eventually united in marriage and soon began focusing on starting a family. His son, William “Billy” (deceased) was brought into this world in 1977. Not long after in 1979, his daughter Lisa soon followed. From there, his family accompanied him to Frankfurt, Germany during a tour of duty and then to Fort Hood, Texas, where they eventually settled.
Richard was a military police officer and obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He honorably retired in the early 90’s and he continued to work in the security field until he was able to stop and support his wife full time with owning their own business. While there, he would man the front counter and provide joyful customer service to all who walked through their doors. Eventually, health complications from his military service, which he loved so dearly, brought us where we are today. For his love of service, he will be remembered most as a husband, a father, a church deacon, and a United States Soldier.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Chong; his son Richard Stone Jr. (wife Christine) and daughter Lisa Abney (husband Daniel); sisters Mary, Debbie, Molly, (brother Morty, deceased); and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Michael, and William. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Rocky.
Richard’s life will be celebrated at 11am, Friday, December 8th, 2023, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery and at 2pm, Friday, December 8th, 2023, at Cove Korean Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas, where all are welcomed.
