Donel L. “Don” Morrison, age 88, of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away on Friday, March 29th, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. Don was born October 2, 1930 in Vinita, Oklahoma to Jermey Morrison and Mamie Davis-Morrison. He married the love of his life, Billie Jean Gerard on May 9th, 1953. Together they raised three children, Cheri, Dwayne and Alissa.
Don loved his country and served proudly in both the U.S. Navy and Army. He served combat tours to Korea and Vietnam. His awards while serving included a Meritorious Unit Commendation, Bronze Star with an oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal (Navy), Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation (Navy), Army Commendation, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver service star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal Clamp, Bronze 4 Loops, Good Conduct Medal (Navy), Joint Service Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster. He retired after 20 years of service. After retirement he purchased D&D Feedstore with his son, which is still family owned and operated for over 43 years. Don enjoyed many things with his loved ones. He went fishing as often as he could when the weather was good, bowled in a bowling league with his son, grandson and daughter in-law, was a member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church and the Clear Creek Trio Plus One and every year for 24 years sang at the Spring Ho with his daughter. His whistling and singing are going to be missed greatly. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Billie Jean Morrison, father Jermey Morrison, mother Mamie Davis-Morrison, Sister Mary Lou Johnson, Sister Margie Scott, brother Joe Morrison and grandson Dustin Morrison-Kapsch. Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter Cheri and husband Charles Brooks, son Dwayne and wife Susan Morrison, daughter Alissa and husband Tommy Murphree, granddaughter Kasey and husband Cooper Carlton, granddaughter Tobie and husband Joey Velesky, grandsons Donel Morrison and Nathaniel Murphree and granddaughter Kylea Murphree all of Copperas Cove. His 5 great grandchildren, Justin, Peyton, Shaylee, and KatieLynn Velesky, and Kenlie Carlton will also cherish his memory.The family welcomes friends and family to visit and celebrate with them in a memorial service at 11 A.M. on April 5, 2019 at Clear Creek Baptist Church.The family would also like to express their most sincere gratitude to the care teams at Heart of Texas Hospice and to the staff of Crawford Bowers Funeral Home.
