Services for Sandra Dianne Bowen, age 72, of Copperas Cove will be 2 p.m. Friday at Robertson Avenue Baptist Church in Copperas Cove with Pastor Jody Jones officiating. Interment services will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
Mrs. Bowen passed away March 13, 2012 at her home in Copperas Cove. She was born June 4, 1939 in Moody, Texas, at her grandmother’s house to Oliver Therman Berry and Virginia Hatter Berry.
Dianne graduated fifth in her class from Moody High School. She was a Drum Major for the Moody Bearcats and a member of the National Honor Society. Dianne moved to Copperas Cove with her family in 1958. She worked for KCEN radio station and in the office of the PX on Fort Hood. She then started her longtime career at Hallmark Homes, where she was secretary/partner and became a real estate salesman, broker, developer and builder. Many years later she opened Dianne’s Florals and Gifts. She was a very talented floral designer and decorator, who had an eye for beauty.
She loved playing basketball and played a short time for a semi professional team. She also enjoyed skiing and bowling. She had her own Wii bowling center in her home where she spent many hours competitively bowling with her nephew, Johnny Bowen. She regularly held the bowling trophy between the two and holds it to this day. Dianne loved to travel, she was fortunate to make many trips to Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and several Islands. She also enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean Islands and to Alaska. She particularly enjoyed decorating for Christmas. During the holiday season she would have seven exquisitely decorated trees in her home.
She was a longtime member of Robertson Avenue Baptist Church in Copperas Cove.
She was preceded in death by a son, her pride and joy, Randall Wayne Bowen, who was killed in a hunting accident at age 13; her parents, Therman Berry, who was killed in an electrical accident while working at Fort Hood, Virginia Berry Allen and her step father, Floyd D. Allen and a host of friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jackie “Jack” Wayne Bowen, who rarely left her side during the last nine months, of Copperas Cove; a loving son, Bradley Berry Bowen and his wife Lorena and her adorable one year old grandson, Ashton Randall Bowen all of San Antonio; two sisters, Judy Bowen Clark and her husband Tommy of Copperas Cove and Karen Allen von Seutter and her husband Armin of Dallas; a brother in law, Pete Bowen of Marble Falls; two sisters in law, Billie Jean Knight of Marble Falls and June Bowen of Lubbock, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Bowen family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
Serving as pallbearers will be her cousins, Gary Lynn Berry, Wayne Berry, Charles “Bud” Hatter, Doug Hatter, Ronnie Hatter and Todd Hatter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Logan, Sonny Mosley, Sonny Potter, Skip Darossett, J.D. Crow, Christopher Hankins, Bill Price, Jr. and Brad Price.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Robertson Avenue Baptist Church, 305 East Robertson Avenue, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522.
