Larry graduated from Richfield High School in Waco and continued his education at Tyler Junior College, where he earned his degree in Applied Engineering.
Larry had a long career in the steel industry, working as the chief estimator and the production manager for Austin Steel. He retired from Hirschfeld Steel Company in 2007.
Larry loved cars, old and new. He spent many hours working on cars and motorcycles with his sons. He loved going to car shows and watching car races on TV. Larry had a wealth of mechanical knowledge and could always be found in the garage, working or fixing something. Larry also loved reading and watching westerns.
Larry was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He was always there with advice, support, and encouragement. He could always be counted on to the help out his family, friends, and neighbors.
Left to cherish his memory, is his wife Susie, of 57 years his sons Daniel Sawyers and his wife Lisa and Michael Sawyers, his sister, Debbie Jessup (Mark), his 4 grandchildren, Cassady, Tori, Coleman, and JD Sawyers, 1 great grandchild, Kallie Ann, his sisters in law Elizabeth Valdez, Linda Robbins (Wally), Rita Stewart, and Sandy Liebau, brothers in law Michael Mayo, John Thornquist (Edna), Steve Thornquist (Amy) and 15 nieces and nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents Coleman and Nelda Sawyers and sister in law Donna Mayo.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the charity of your choosing, in memory of Larry.
