John (Jack) Jacobs passed away in peace at the age of 95 on Sunday, October 18. Born in Oak Park, IL in 1925, Jack was the oldest of three boys born to Joseph and Gertrude Jacobs. In 1943, at the age of 18, Jack was drafted into the United States Navy and proudly served in World War II from 1943-1946 on a Fletcher Class Destroyer, the USS John Hood (DD-655), as a Seaman First Class, Torpedoman’s Mate.
After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, Jack attended The University of Notre Dame, where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree and as a member of prestigious Notre Dame Monogram Club. After his graduation from Notre Dame, Jack went on to spend 19 years in the United States Air Force and Illinois Air National Guard, retiring in 1968 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Jack earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Illinois State University and spent many years in the steel forging and die casting business in several financial positions from Controller to Chief Financial Officer. After retiring, Jack could be found traveling the world with his wife, Mary Fran, or sitting and cheering at one of his grandson’s hockey games.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Fran Jacobs, his parents, Joseph and Gertrude Jacobs, and his youngest brother, Joel Jacobs. He is survived by his son, Bob Jacobs, wife Kecia and their two children, Collin and Lane; and brother Jim Jacobs and wife Louisa.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 2:30 PM at The Church of the Incarnation, located on the campus of The University of Dallas – 1845 E Northgate Dr, Irving, TX 75062 and his remains will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery – 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211 – on Tuesday, November 24 at 1:30 PM.
