Amelia was born in Bavaria, Germany to her late parents, Joseph and Walburga (nee Wiedemann) Baur. She emigrated to the United States with her grandparents at the age of 4. She grew up in the Bronx, attending public schools, and graduated in 1941. In her years of work, she was a Medical Secretary to Dr. Gustav Samak in Lindenhurst and 20 years in Brunswick Hospital in Amityville as an Executive Secretary. She met her late husband, David Maurinac, in 1937 in the Bronx, while rollerskating with her friends. They married in 1943 and made their home in the Bronx and then moved to Copiague in 1961, where they raised their own family.
In her private time, Amelia enjoyed OLA Altar Rosary Society and Hospice Volunteer.
She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Walberga; her husband, David; her son-in-law, John McCue; and her longtime companion, Joseph Stanzione. Surviving are her daughters - Alice McCue and Michele Ann Law (Lawrence Sven Law); her grandchildren - John David (Angel) McCue, Jennylee (Stewart) Terzopoulos, Jonathan Law (Kerrin Link) and Samantha Law (Ken Fearon); and her great-grandchildren - Penelope and Harrison. Also surviving are her cousins – Mary Beyerbach, Daniel (Gerry) Beyerbach, Josephine Kestel and Rosel Hatt.
Family and friends will gather at the Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26th, from 2 - 4:30 and 7 - 9:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 27th at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Copiague. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
