Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Thomas Richard “Dick” Murtha Fischer of Conroe, Texas died on September 11, 2012 at the age of 63. Dick was born in Austin, Texas on July 5, 1949 to loving parents Frank and Alice Fischer and was reared in a large and loving family. An alumnus of the University of North Texas with a degree in journalism, Dick met his future wife, Felita, while working for The Lufkin Daily News. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Dick was a devout Catholic and enjoyed learning about, and engaging in discussions of, his faith. Always full of life and smiling, Dick most enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones. A child at heart himself, he loved children and bringing joy to others as Santa Claus. He delighted in recounting childhood stories and making others laugh and never missed an opportunity to brag about his family, even to total strangers.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Felita Fischer (née Cochran) of Conroe, Texas; sons Richard Fischer and wife Greta of Midland, Texas, Christopher Fischer of Frisco, Texas, Jason Fischer and wife Heather of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Emma Fischer of Frisco, Texas, Kylie Fischer of Midland, Texas, and Haley Williams of Celina, Texas; siblings Frank Fischer and wife Judy of Kingsport, Tennessee, Marie Simpson and husband David of Crete, Illinois, Paul Fischer and wife Barbara of Farmers Branch, Texas, Beth Roberts of Columbus, Georgia, Nancy Bonomo and husband Ken of Coal City, Illinois, Margo Hays and husband Jason of Georgetown, Texas, and Joe Fischer and wife Kristin of Georgetown, Texas; and aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and numerous friends. Dick is predeceased by parents Francis “Frank” Henry Fischer and Alice Marie Fischer (née Murtha), and sister Julia Fischer.
A Vigil with Rosary will be held Monday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in The Woodlands, Texas.
