Thelma Evans Austin, 98, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2013. She was born November 4, 1914 to Guy and Sarah Evans in Montgomery, Texas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by son William Leon Holmes, brothers Jimmie, Emmett, AJ, Delbert, and Aubrey Evans and sister Nellie Casburn. She is survived by son Max Holmes (Patsy) of Conroe, TX and daughter Linda Everhard (Paul) of Nicholasville, KY. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her Mimi. Thelma will be remembered for the wonderful meals shared at her home and for the beautiful quilts she sewed by hand.
Thelma grew up in Montgomery, Texas and attended Montgomery High School. She moved to Houston in 1958 and became a beautician. She eventually owned her own beauty shop where she worked until her retirement at age 71. She was a member of First Methodist Church, Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM- 7PM at Metcalf Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24, 2013. Funeral service will be held 10 AM on Friday, October 25, 2013 in the Metcalf Chapel. She will be laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery, Montgomery, Texas at 12 PM on Friday.
