Shirley Wolcott Walker, 61, wife, mother, sister, friend, and volunteer, died on September 19, 2010 in Houston, Texas at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born on March 16, 1949 in Houston and is preceded in death by parents Jack William Wolcott and Frances Burrows Wolcott. Shirley was known for her never-ending spirit of giving and devoted friendship.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dr. Daniel R. Walker, daughters Lindsey Reczek and Carly Craig, son-in-law Darren Craig, sister Pat Payne and brother-in-law Gordon Payne, sister-in-law Bay Haught and husband David Haught, mother-in-law Dede Broyles and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was an active member of her community and a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Conroe, Texas, where she participated in ‘Pairs and Spares’ Sunday school, taught children’s Sunday school for many years, and volunteered in the church’s Soup Kitchen. As an organ donor, Shirley’s giving spirit continues in her death.
Shirley graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston before graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University.
When not giving of her time and compassion, Shirley enjoyed traveling, the Houston Astros and Texans, supporting the Conroe Tigers, playing bridge with her bridge group of 20 years and spending time with family.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Conroe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Conroe.
