Lynn is preceded in death by his parents Bernice and Michael DeGeorge, his brother Michael Wayne DeGeorge and son Stephen Kumler-DeGeorge.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife Jamie Cannan DeGeorge; sister Gayle DeGeorge; daughter Michelle Peacock (Nathan), daughter, April DeGeorge; son Douglas DeGeorge; niece Jacquelyn Sorcic Johnson (Jordan); grandchildren Kristin, Josh, Sloan, Quinten, Evelyn, and Will and great granddaughter, Hadleigh.
Lynn was a native Houstonian and attended Spring Branch High School Class of 1960 and University of Houston. For twenty four years, Lynn served as a general contractor providing service for both residential and commercial properties. He served as the lead investigator for several institutional buildings in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and multifamily condominiums in Austin, Texas. Lynn was in high demand as a testifying expert and for lead and supporting roles for court cases involving construction defects. He appeared in federal and state courts, mediations, depositions, and arbitrations.
Lynn had an extensive background in building sciences and technologies. His vast knowledge base led him into building defects, forensic investigations providing engineering support and litigation services. Lynn was recognized as an expert and taught at the Exterior Design Institute. Some of Lynn’s professional affiliations were professional member-International Conference of Building Officials; charter member-Southern Council of Professional Building Inspectors (disbanded); Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors (TAREI) (not active); Texas Professional Real Estate Inspectors Association (TPREIA) charter member; Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries International (AWCI) (not active) and ASTM-C11 Committee.
Lynn’s joy was in helping others. Lynn joined Kiwanis in 2003, served as Club President 2007, 2008, and 2011 through 2017, Lt. Governor Division 9, and Aktion Clubs District Administrator for several years thereafter.
Lynn loved having a house full of family and friends and would always prepare a delicious meal to be enjoyed by all. He was an outstanding family chef and preparing food was his way of showing his love. Lynn tried to take care of everyone around him, whether it was a repair or driving miles to help someone move. He was one who could always be counted on.
Lynn put his career on hold to be a part of his son, Doug’s, high school golf experiences. In recent years, Lynn attended many orchestra and choir concerts, track meets, and basketball games supporting his grandchildren in their interests and activities. He also supported his wife, Jamie, in her career as a school Principal and later as a novice dressage rider. His support made a difference in the lives of many. He did love sending jokes and funny videos to friends and family members and, of course, the occasional nap. Lynn will be remembered for his strength of character, his gentle touch, and kind words. Though heaven gained an angel, Lynn will never be forgotten.
Special thanks to Dr. Matthew Simpson and Dr. Sanjay Patel, Lynn’s caregivers at Senior Helpers and Amedisys Hospice.
