After graduating high school, she moved to Texas to attend the University of Texas at Arlington where she met and fell in love with William Ray Penton. They married on August 5, 1967, and had two daughters.
Luellen enjoyed several different careers before retirement. After graduating from UTA she worked as a Bio Med technician. She later worked as a music instructor at Children of the Woodlands for many years. She returned to school to earn her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, the career she enjoyed until she retired. She spent many years as a member of the Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, their choir, and the Woodlands Chorale. Music was a big part of her life; in her free time, she enjoyed playing the piano, singing, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Luellen is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Ray. She is survived by her two brothers, Richard “Rick” David Ufheil and his wife Marcia Ufheil-Somers of Campbell, California, and Kenneth “Ken” John Ufheil of Plano, Texas; her two daughters Bethany Dawn Thompson and her husband Kevin Thompson (separated) of Conroe, Texas and Kimberly Blythe Petrie and her husband Jason Petrie (separated) of the Woodlands, Texas; and her six grandchildren: Lorien Thompson and Frederic “Fred" Metcalfe of Saltillo, Mississippi; Eleora “Ellie” Thompson, Kyria Thompson, Zoe Thompson, and Samuel Thompson of Conroe, Texas and Madeline Grace Petrie of the Woodlands, Texas; and one great-granddaughter Aria Metcalfe of Saltillo, Mississippi.
