Louise M. Smith, 70, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Wednesday, September 23, 2015. She was born on May 26, 1945 to Clyde and Catherine McDonald in Redwater, Texas.
Louise never missed an opportunity to share her love and true calling in life which was cooking. There is not a recipe “our mother” couldn’t prepare. Some of her favorite recipes to prepare were her fried pies (any flavor you wanted), homemade cakes and pies, chicken salad, “beautiful” croissants, homemade dressing, and endless casseroles. The list of her dishes, made from scratch, could go on and on. Many of her recipes are included in the Southside Baptist Church cookbooks. It was not unusual for her to stay up all night preparing food, by herself, for Thanksgiving or Christmas. She always made more than enough food.
When raising her children, it was common to find her coaching one of their teams, being the “team mom”, and yelling from the sidelines. She enjoyed all sports, and particularly enjoyed playing tennis at the “Y” with friends, playing at Mims on a mixed volleyball team league, and also was a member of a ladies bowling league on Monday nights. She loved competition. The tradition continued with the grandchildren, as she beamed with pride watching each of the five participate in sports, dance, and choir.
She was involved most of her life at Southside Baptist Church. She actively helped organize VBS (snack-time), Mulligan’s in Fall, Dinner on the Grounds, Pot Luck Dinners after church, showers, and Progressive Dinners.
As a present member of Riverpointe Baptist Church, the fellowship among her church members has always meant a great deal to her and has been an important part of her life.
In her few hours of quiet time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles while watching her favorite game show, “Jeopardy”.
Louise was a devoted Wife of fifty years, Mother, GranGran, and friend.
She is survived by the love of her life, Michael Carlton Smith, daughter; Angela Renee Smith Reed and husband Carl, sons; Michael Bradley Smith and wife Jody, and Jeffrey Paul Smith and wife Rhondi, grandchildren; Allyson Renee Reed and Kyle Gragg, Clark Dawson Reed, Savannah Lee Smith, Sophie Louise Smith and Jaxson Paul Michael Smith.
