Louise Blake

Opal Louise Blake, born on April 7, passed away peacefully in her home on November 4, 2017 at the age of 94. She was born in the Montgomery TX. area in 1923. Her mother grew ill when Louise was young, and Louise quit school to take care of her. After her mother passed away, she lived with another family in the area that needed her help. She was always a giving person, selflessly taking care of others. She met and married Andrew (Andy) Blake in 1940, when she was 18. They had 2 children together, and in 1944 Andrew enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country while Louise took care of 2 small children at home. After World War II, he returned to Louise and they had 2 more children. They lived in Montgomery while Andrew worked for the Texas Forest Service. As adults, both of them were faithful members of the Lord’s church. Andrew served as an elder at the Shiloh church of Christ, with Louise at his side working together for the Lord. Throughout her lifetime, Louise was known as a talented cook. Her teacakes and her chocolate pies were very popular. She was especially good at improvising. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she knew all about substituting ingredients and making do with available resources. She didn’t need recipes, but she was very good at preparing the fresh vegetables from their garden and the meat from the animals they raised. Some years after Andrew passed away in 1995, Louise moved to Huntsville, where she lived the last 15 years of her life, and was a faithful member of the Fish Hatchery Road Church of Christ. From their 4 children, Andy and Louise were blessed with 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Louise was a doting grandmother, always looking for small ways to make them happy. She was generous to many other people, too. Up until the point that she could no longer drive herself, she was dedicated to visiting people in the church that needed visiting, cooking for them and giving them care and attention. She was a generous loving person that enriched the lives of everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Weldon Blake, her parents, Jasper and Hester Bailey, and 6 siblings. She is survived by son; Andrew Weldon Blake, and wife, Darlene of Huntsville, TX; son; J.R. Blake, and wife, Deborah of Montgomery, TX, daughter; Esther Duncan, and husband, Billy Ray Duncan of Conroe, TX; daughter; Opal Baker and husband, David Baker of Emory, TX, grandchildren; Wayne and Laura Blake of Huntsville, Cindy Paluka of Huntsville, Billy Duncan of Conroe, TX, Lisa and Tommy Cook of Conroe, TX, Jimmy and Lindsey Duncan of Dallas, TX, Elizabeth and Michael McClaren of Montgomery, TX, Rachelle Blake of Montgomery, TX, Mary Allysan Griffin of Downey, CA, Jo Ann and Michael Gibson of Crockett, TX, Ranae and James Bryan of Emory, TX, Paul and Holly Baker of Portland, TX. She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. The family would also like to thank the two loving caregivers; Sandra O’Bryant & Debra Glaze. Funeral service for Opal Louise Blake will be held at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 12:30pm with Bruce Stulting officiating. Visitation will be prior to service starting at 10:30am. Interment will follow service at Rabon Chapel Cemetery in Montgomery, Texas.
