Larry was born July 29, 1941, to the late Robert Andrew Mahaffey Sr. and Jessie Marie Tyler in Chester, Texas. He's a father of four children, Laura, Tammy, Misty & Brandon and three grandchildren Rachel, King and Chad. His is also survived by three sisters Barbara Johnson, Francis Worsham and Patricia Miller. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Marjorie McQueen, Bud Mahaffey, Raymond Mahaffey, Virginia Hill, Lloyd Mahaffey, Robert Andrew Mahaffey Jr. and Bonnie Tumey and has numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
God blessed him with an amazingly beautiful voice. He could sing anything and make the heavens open wide. Along with his guitar playing, especially his Chet Atkins style, he was an entertainer that was hard to beat. He played in numerous bands starting at a very young age. He would drive miles just how to learn to make a new chord and it certainly paid off. People will be talking about his talent for many years to come.
He was also a classic car enthusiast. He loved working and restoring old cars and you could always find him at a car show. He won numerous trophies for Best in Show. He had a physical and emotional bond with his cars and when he felt like he had created perfection...it was like a cold drink after a hard day's work and he couldn't help but to think "they don't make them like they used to". If you needed a mirror, all you had to do was look at one of his cars.
The tremendous love of his life only weighed 5 lbs. That was his chihuahua Bella. He was absolutely crazy about this little creature and she was the ultimate boss of him and the highlight of his days. She's going to miss him as well as we all will. He'll never be forgotten.
There will be private family services.
